Why did god create us as imperfect beings?

I thought you were gonna go somewhere else with this question. Since the majority of the world's population subscribes to the idea that God created man in his image, what does that say about God? It seems to me that if man is imperfect, then so is God. That would explain why he couldn't create perfect beings in the first place.
