How do I know if a shy guy likes me in middle school?

Well, this guy I like is not really "shy". He is very loud and swears a lot in my presence. Once he has hit me with a recess ball (on the leg) and his friend makes noises like "zit zit zit" kinda like I am shocking him with some foreign electric power. Then other guys that know i like this one guy ask me why I like him. But really im clueless about all this "drama"
