Why is halal/ kosher meat not banned?

Expecting many defensive answers from bigots for this, but why isn't halal/ kosher meat banned??!! It is incredibly cruel if the throat is not slit correctly and the animal is still conscious while it bleeds to death. Why are Muslims/ Jews so opposed to stunning the animal before hand? I think it's absolutely ludicrous that this can continue in the "name of religion". At least if it was stunned it would not suffer? And no, I am not a vegetarian ranting on about this.
